The citys original sight is now the Christiansborg Palace, the cities wealth increased when a tax was introduced for vessels passing through the straits between Denmark and Sweden.  When Copehenhagen became the capital, the lands of Denmark extnded through much of Sweden and Norway.

Much of the modern city in layout if not buildings was created by Christian IV in the 16th Century, including the districts of Nyborder, christianshavn, Rosenbirg Slot and Børsen.

The result a low skyline, a small central city surrounded by parks.  Nearly everything you will want to see is in the central area making walking a viable option.
